Important Dates for October:

10/30: Trunk or Treat (wear costumes: NO masks or weapons, if costume is inflatable, it must be deflated indoors!)

3rd Grade Class Expectations:

1. Be Respectful – Use kind words, listen when others are speaking, and treat everyone with respect.

2. Be Responsible – Come prepared, complete your work, and take care of classroom materials.

3. Be Ready to Learn – Pay attention, participate, ask questions, and always try your best.

4. Follow Directions – Listen carefully and follow directions the first time.

5. Keep Hands, Feet, and Objects to Yourself – Help keep our classroom safe for everyone.

6. Use Appropriate Voices – Use a quiet voice when working and a listening voice when someone is speaking.

7. Stay on Task – Focus on your learning and use class time wisely.

8. Be a Good Classmate – Include others, cooperate, share, and help when you can.

9. Take Care of Our Classroom – Keep your space and shared areas clean and organized.

10. Believe in Yourself – Mistakes help us learn. Keep trying, even when something is challenging.

3rd Grade Class Goals:

Reading & Language Arts

• Fluency & Comprehension: Read grade-level texts smoothly, answer questions about details, and identify the main idea or moral of a story.

• Vocabulary: Decode multisyllable words and understand common prefixes and suffixes.

• Writing: Write full paragraphs with a topic sentence, supporting details, and a conclusion, including opinion, narrative, and informative pieces.

• Grammar & Mechanics: Use correct capitalization, commas, quotation marks, and identify parts of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives).

Math

• Operations: Memorize multiplication and division facts up to 10 × 10, and solve multi-digit addition, subtraction, and multiplication problems.

• Fractions: Understand and work with simple fractions like halves, thirds, and fourths.

• Measurement & Data: Measure and calculate the area and perimeter of simple shapes, and solve two-step word problems.

Science & Social Studies

• Science: Understand the water cycle, basic plant and animal life cycles, and simple physical forces like gravity.

• Social Studies: Read basic maps with a compass and legend, and learn about local communities and early history.

Grading Policy:

Homework:
Homework is checked and graded for completion during class. Missing portions of HW mean not getting full credit. Missing HW is listed as incomplete. If a student is absent, they have until the day after they come back to make up missed HW.

Classwork:

Students are expected to work diligently on classwork during the school day in a timely manner. Classwork will be checked during classtime.

Tests:

Tests will be graded out of 100%. Below 70% is a failing grade. If a student is absent, arrangements will be made for the student to take the test at a future date. 


School Policies

- Cellphones/I-Pads/Electronics for grades lower than 5th are strictly prohibited. Any of the aforementioned devices that are found will be confiscated until the end of the school day

- Monday/Tuesday: Gym uniforms are to be worn with the appropriate footwear
- Wednesday-Friday: The standard uniform MUST be worn. gray polo, pants/shorts, jumper/skirt options for girls, and the school shoe. If a student can't wear the school shoe, a doctor's note must be provided. Otherwise, being out of uniform will cause a student to receive a uniform infraction and be given recess detention.
